`97 C230 strange sound when I start the engine
Hello guys! My engine makes a sound like a saw, and pretty loud when I start the engine COLD. It starts after 3-5 sec. after I start the engine and it takes about 1 min. to stop, then everything its normal. The sound will never start anymore while driving or after a short break stop if the engine is warm. Can somebody tell me what could be the problem and how much will cost me to fix it? ( The engine has almost 200K) Thanks in advance and kind regards, Kristi

maybe air leaking from the air injection pump could be a bad hose or bad airpump. the airpump usually turns on on a car start. just a guess from the desription you gave.

First of all, thank you from your prompt answer, chassis221. You might be right sir, because, sometimes the windshield is also having some problems: While working normal, the windshield is doing about an half circle rotation (we know its only 1 windshield for C230) , lets say between 0 and 180 degrees. When is not working properly, between 0 and 45 degrees it ok, but between 45 and 135 degrees , the windshield is rotating very hard and slow (if if the rubber blades are in the air). I think the windshield system is working with air too. And also... sometimes one of my doors remains unlock, so again air leaking.

the airpump im talking about is the pump on the engine for emmisions control. it has a rubber hose that goes to the engine to supply air sometimes the hose crack. if the problem persists you could get a check engine light. of course thats only if thats the problem you have.

as forthe windshield wiper you can usually lube it ,on the actual rod that moves in and out, on the wiper arm. they dry out and become hard for the motor to move. there is a cover on the wiper arm that comes off and exposes the piston/ rod and put some antiseize on the rod and it should improve.
