Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing
The Mercedes Benz 300SL Coupe was first introduced in 1954. It was immediately nicknamed the Gullwing because the doors opened vertically. This car has since become one of the most desired collector cars on the market. Back when the gullwing first came out, it had a retail price of less than $10,000. Today, this car can fetch as much as $1,000,000.
Except here go the exact quote from one of my sources. And yes, I've seen a Gullwing fetch around one million at an auction but then again, a VW bus from the 60s just fetched a couple of hundred thousand. Like for example. A mint condition Barracuda can sell for a pretty penny at an auction but I've seen them listed for $20,000-$35,000. It all depends on the demand, target group, location. Also it depends on how much of the car is original, like the paint.
Take the price range of a W126 560SEL for example. I copped mine for $3200 because the guy didn't want it sitting and it had all types of neat gadgets installed like remote start and other things that I rarely use and it's near perfect condition. It was appraised at $8,000 if was to some how wreck it. Yet, I've seen some with asking prices in the $12,000-$15,000. And one mint condition one sold in three days for $25,000.
There are people that spend a bundle of money on a half eaten grill cheese sandwhich because they see the virgin mary. Mo telling what people will pay for. Next thing you know, a Hyndai will be auction off fetching $100,000 because they see the pope's face in the dashboard.

Were do u get ur prices on cars I have yet to see a Gullwing price of over $400K.

I am sure that the VW bus saw go for that was a 21 Window which are very rare. And that 300 u saw must have have some history behind more than just the car itself.
