Hi all my 1976 450SL Ive named "Panzer" driver door window wont recede all the way. Starting a few weeks ago it remains up about 3 inches when it is lowered. Additionally for quite some time there is a nice clanking noise from inside the door panel over bumps and when the door is closed.
The car and I are in San Diego. Its always been a garaged car.

Before removing the door panel to take a peek I prefer to have as many of the parts I am likely to need on hand considering it is old. Things like clips and felts etc. Can you all direct me here? Also where to purchase such parts is information that would be valuable to me. I know of SSF and Rock Auto for parts but other suggestions would be great.

I think the window motor sounds fine but both door windows slowly move up and down. They have always done that. Is that normal?

Ive had the car for 10 years but dont drive him much. Ive recently built an electric hoist to lift off the hard top into the ceiling of a storage unit I have so Panzer is going to be driven much more now. I would like my left arm to rest on the door frame and with the window up a little like it is that cant happen.
