I thought you could get the limiter removed on AMG models? In two seperate Australian published magazines (Wheels and Motor)they saidyou could and one of them did a test on several super cars including the SL55 which reached 326km\h.

In Germany. AMG will "raise" the top speed to either 280km/h or 300km/h, depending on models. But it also requires other options such as tire package. The Mercedes - AMGin U.S. doesn't carry that option (could it be under the table?)

From time to time, we do see a Mercedes tested without the 250km/h limiter. Motor Trend tested a CL55 AMG kompressor up to either 186 or 187mph....(300km/h) and that is a option offered to German customers.

Well in Motor March 2002 they got a SL55 to 326km\h. 0-100 in 4.7 secs, 0-200 in 13.1 secs and 0-300 in 32.5 secs. (It actually beat the Murcielago to 300 by 1.7secs)

MBs in Germany would galdly remove your limiter.
It's because all big car companies in Germany has it's car limited to 133mph, except Porsche...
MB doesn't want their customer to be smoked by a Porsche, now wouldn't they?

What's the drag limit for the SL55? About 175 mph or so? I'm just taking a wild guess so I may be way off.

You need good high-speed tires to go that fast, but you don't need "super" supercar tires unless you plan to maintain that speed until the tires get mooshy-hot.

Tires for speed above 149mph (240km/h) should have 'ZR' in the size designation. Tires having a maximum speed capability above 186 mph (300 km/h) must have 'ZR' in the size designation

Well....

I got the limiter removed!! I managed to get an extra 50hp/50lb ft of torque as well!!

The car will do a shade over 200 mph...
I have been able to outrun a Ferrari 360CS on a mountain road...
I have run dead even with a Murcielago in a straight line!!

This car is too much fun

Ciao...Dino

Sorry, but circumventing an electronic speed control won't add 50 hp.

Will do. I'd like some of what he's drinking or smoking, though.
