Default removing the in-dash phone

I resently purchased a 1993 300SD with the phone keypad/controls in the center of the dash. Has anyone out there ever removed these controls and used the space for a second glove box? I'd also like to remove the reciever/handset from the center console and utilize that space too.

Default RE: removing the in-dash phone

I removed the handset from the console. I don't remember the exact steps, but it wasn't very challenging. Just start doing it and it'll come.

The in-dash part is a different story, at least for me. I'm not sure how it comes out or what it's connect to. I didn't want to kill my entire car when I just wanted to kill the phone. A spider web of interconnecting electronic spasticity flashed like a warning sign in my mind... so I left it alone. It's probably not a big deal to remove.

I think if you get the phone thingie out there will be a butt-ugly hole left in its place. The glovebox was probably removed when the phone was installed.
