Default What kind of pump is this?

I have a '91 300se. Yesterday I went to start it and I was immediately greeted with a meat grinder noise from the Block. I said a short prayer, and looked to find that a pump on the passenger (USA) side of the engine compartment just above the alternator had finally died. Problem is I don't know exactly what the pump is for, but I think it may be a vacuum pump.

Can anybody identify this pump for me - so I can order a new one?

Here's a photo:

Will if it was your power steering pump, there is no way you could steer. Unless you really are a sasquatch. Anyhow its your air pump, you can drive the car, the engine needs to get rid of crank case gases and some pressure the air pump help's out. Go to, The partbin.com very easy to replace two hose in/out. good luck
