W124 ignition coils - new or used
I have a 1995 E320 (W124) with 191,000 miles on the clock, that has begun idling roughly and has stalled a couple of times. The mechanic wants to replace the ignition coils and plug wires and all the various parts that go along. However, he suggests to save money, I put in used ignition coils. He has some from a car with 50,000 miles on them.
Is it usual to use used ignition coils and is it worth doing so? The price is about 2/3 price of new ones.
Thanks

If the price is 2/3 of new, don't waste your time! There are only 3 coils and I wouldn't risk it with that little of a discount. Sounds like he is gouging you on the used parts though. Is this a Mercedes Mechanic? Is the check engine light on?
