I have recently purchased a w124 estate e320. It has a 5 speed automatic gearbox, everything, or mostly, has been going smoothly until on our first long run yesterday.

The car was happily running in overdrive 5th, then we stopped at some roadworks and subsequently wouldn't drop into o/d 5th. I stopped and turned the engine off and this solved the problem until we stopped again for roadworks and the same thing seems to be happening all the time. This morning stopping the engine doesn't seem to have resolved it. I have a long run back home and would rather not be churning at 20mph per 1000rpm

Is their a simple solution? Doubt it but you never know.

While I'm about it .. intermittent wipe doesn't work either and the wipe sticks in position as you switch through from normal wipe to intermittent and then self parks when switched off
