W124 230 E poor acceleration
I have a 1989 230 E Auto it has done 120,000 miles and has developed the following fault. The engine starts easily and when you drive off everything is OK until the engine reaches just over 3,000 rpm and it then looses power and struggles to exceed 60 mph unless you ease off on the throttle and let it slowly build up speed and it will eventually reach 70 or 80 mph. It has had plug leads, plugs. distributor cap and rotor etc and the ignition side seems all OK. Its as though it is not getting enough fuel to go any faster unless you ease off on the throttle and that is the only way you can accelerate beyond 3500 rpm. The fuel filter has also been replaced.

RE: W124 230 E poor acceleration
Could be a restriction in the fuel lines before or after fuel pump or fuel pump capacity output is low, but if it runs OK up to 3000 rpm, indications lean thought to a controlling problems. Any computer error codes?

I had the same problem on my 89 300e and I checked around online and found out that it was over voltage protection relay or ovp relay. Swap this out for another one and I bet your problem goes away. Hope it helps.
