Valve Tapping?
I just recently bought a pre-owned certified 2003 E500 with about 36K miles on it. After
less than a week it started to make a noise which sounded like it was coming from the
engine compartment. It was a knock or tapping sound like a valve tap or really loud
injectors? It's not pinging, I know that sound. I took it to the service department and the
morons there said they heard the noise and put some Mercedes Mystery potion in the
gas tank and to run it at 70mph on the highway for 30-45 minutes. Hello. Well, of course
that didn't help.
I've also tried to obtain the correct service and user manuals as I don't have a complete
set. I have the wrong service book and the manual is missing pages 127-160 although the
book doesn't have any pages torn out.
Repeated phone calls to the salesman have been ignored. Mercedes dealership is the
worst yet! And I've seen some real gems here in New Jersey.
I'm left with taking the car (still under warranty) to my own mechanic only because I
can't get any feedback or helpful work from the dealership (committed to excellence...).
My mechanic is awesome so at least I know he won't over charge me or do unneccessary
work on my car.
Should I shout out "Lemon Law" stuff now????
Just wondered what's the best way to handle this? I've also sent a very negative service
department survey back and emailed the sales manager...they just don't care. They've
got my money and now I'm on my own.
What a shame. I was hoping Mercedes-Benz was going to be different but it's just a fancier
showroom and service department. Same old people working there though....
