transmission pulls

Default transmission pulls
I hope it is not what I think it is but my 98 e320 when in drive feels like transmission grabs and pulls. It doesnt happen all the time. Also some times when I put it in drive it wont move. If I push it it will run.
Does anyone know what I should check before I decide to get new tranny

Trrans oil level and codes are the first step.
