transmission life

I'm considering purchasing an early 80's 300D. Could anyone tell me what mileage I could expect from the transmission providing it's been maintained and driven decently?

could last forever... could last a year. There's really no way to be absolutely sure it'll last a long time even if it was driven and maintained properly. It's a risk you take buying an old car.
