I own a 1988 300E auto trans with 260,000.I want to see 999,999 on that odo so I want to take care of my baby.recently i got the flywheel replaced and since then the trans will shift on first but after that it wont shift up unless i let off the accelerator.could the shifter linkage bushing cause this because i was told it was falling apart and needs to be replaced,they stuck some hose on there in the meantime.i do have a small leak coming from the trans filter which i plan on replacing soon but could a clogged filter be causing this?thanks for any help.

I believe your throttle position cable is out of adjustment. The cable had to be disconnected when the flywheel was replaced. This cable connects to a lever on the side of the transmission. The purpose of this cable is to control the shift point of the tranny in relation to engine RPM and load.
The harder you accelerate the higher the RPM at which the tranny shifts. This is a fairly easy adjustment. I believe the cable terminates next to the cruise control cable under the airfilter housing. Loosen the cable a few turns and drive the car. You will probably have to do this several times to get it dialed in. Good luck Dustyr
