Help!
I have a 1989 190e I just bought it & it does not shift up to high gear requiring you to stay below 40 mph.
I was told it is the modulator valve.
Does this sound true?
Also this 89 is a 2.6, I have a trans from my 88 190e 2.3 car.
I know the 2.6 has a red mod & the 2.3 a green so the modulator valves are different.
But I know it will bolt up.They are both 6bolt small case.
722.408 & 722.409
So if I swapped out the trans I know I would have to change the mod valve, are there any other differences?
Any help appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi,
I'm not sure Lucas trans oil additive would help in your situation. I knowfor mine the transmission was slipping. The engine would rev but no go. I changed the filter, fluid, and added about 3/4 of a quart of Lucas and it's been working ever since. I have a 1986 190e 2.3 with about 125,000 mi. In your case it sounds like you have power just not in the right gear so I don't know if the Lucas would work. It's not as expensive as a new trans. and it indicates it does not void any warranties so it can't hurt.
