Default Third Brake Light

I have a 1998 E300. For some reasons the third brake light has shorted out (cause to be determined). I can not find any info on how replace the socket that the 3rd light inserts into. Not sure if you can get to it by removing the rear seat or where you have to remove the rear window. Any info would be appreciated.

Default Third Brake Light

I do not understand your answer to my thread. "Yes it works" makes no sense to me re: my question

On the 1998 E300, the third brake light is usually accessible from inside the cabin, not through the rear window. You typically don’t need to remove the rear seat. Instead, check inside the trunk or just behind the rear seat backrest. Like how Portsmouth FC fans know the value of checking every angle during a match, you’ll need to inspect the rear parcel shelf closely—there should be a trim panel that can be carefully pried up or removed. Once that’s off, you should see the third brake light assembly and socket. If the socket is damaged, the whole light housing may need replacing.
