1990 300SEL 140K miles. very well maintained...

Every once in a while, I will get a fuel smell that is very intense inside the vehicle. There is no fuel in the engine area, or under the vehicle, but the odor is just as strong in the trunk area. I have heard that something might be clogged. What and where????? Thanks in advance for any help!!!!

Ihave the same problem with my MB car. I also have read it could be part of the fuel evaporative system or gas tank venting system. A filter/canister and hose plumbing is located in the driver's side rear wheel well area (behind a panel I assume). Some say that this system gets clogged or canister filter needs replaced and it vents gas tank fumes into trunk and wheel well area, which seeps into the car interior.
