Default Steering vibrates on 190 2.6

What could be the cause of a persistent sterring vibration that is more pronounced around 65 mph and then gradually dissipates as one drives faster? Alignment cannot be the cause since I already got that checked. Any other suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

Its either you need a wheel balance or an alignment.

I agree with the other reply. Sounds like a tire problem. You may want to rebalance your tires ON the vehicle. It's called SPINBALANCING. They're not many spin-balance machines left, but they do exist.

I don't know much about the 190 power train, but I suspect it is front-wheel drive. A common reason for vibration if you don't have wheel-balance problems is that the CV joints are worn. In any car where I've seen the problem, they all vibrated at 65mphand it disappeared by the time you reached 70mph. You can tell if this is the problem by seeing if the vibration happens at 65mph when you have been above this, say at 75mphand just take your foot off the gas. If it doesn't vibrate at 65mph on the way down, it's the CV joints.

For future reference, the 190E 2.6, as with all Merc's is a rear wheel drive car. The problem with steering vibration at speeds of 65mph could be mismatched tires, bad struts or worn motor mounts. I would go with changing the struts and making sure the tires are correct, have no small chunks missing in the tread and are the correct size and match...many times the same manufacturer will change the tread design on what you think is the same tire you have on the car. That sutle difference could effect the steering. Its probably worn struts though.

check wheel balance and steering shock, stering shock is mostlikely worn and leaking
