Default Steering noise

Hi All

I have a 1987 500SEL w126.

I'm getting a very funny noise coming from my steering, its like a dull whine when ever my engine on or turn corners.

Can anyone help

Have you checked the fluid?

the power steering fluid level is low.
did you change the steering fluid lately? there could be some air bubbles.
could it be a belt slipping?

I have an 87 260e and it makes a constant whining noise whenever the car is running. It sounds similar to the problem taddub was having. I have been told that it might be the power steering, but the noise doesn't really seem to correlate w/ the steering. It just always whines, and a little louder when you accelerate. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Truespin, if the whine is always there when the engine is running, and seems to get louder with acceleration, it may be a waterpump issue. Generally, water pumps start to whine when they are going bad.

Hi all

Thanks to Lugnut and Sleepwalker. I checked the fluid last night and it was very low, didn't know where to check but found out from other forum Q's and A's.

But now the fluid is leaking, could this be caused from having my waterpump changed. Did the garage not tighten something up properly????

Cheers for all help
