Default Smell of hot transmission fluid

I have a 2005 C240 with less than 5,000 miles on it. When I drive it 70 miles or so, I smell what seems to be hot transmission fluid. Furthermore, my ash tray gets very hot.

I recently read of a C230 recall for a leaking transmission electrical connector/plug. Could there be a connection (excuse the pun) between this problem and my problem?

I've taken my car to MB a couple of times and they tell me there is nothing wrong with it--I'm not convinced.

Anyone know of this problem, and/or how to solve it?

Thanks.

can't it be just the melting wax which they spray underchassis of new car?

you need to lift the car and do visual check.

Maybe. Funny that the Service Manager never mentioned this to me.

What is the purpose of wax?

Thanks Sleepwalker!

A wax undercoating? Forgive me for being perhaps stupid but wouldn't that all melt away the first time you ran the engine to the point where the
cats are getting upwards of a thousand degrees?

I think he's referring to the rust inhibitor. It's a waxy compound that gets sprayed on. It shouldn't be applied to surfaces that get hot, certainly not the cats, for the very reasons you're raising.

Perhaps it's due to a miscommunication at the factory, or a new spray guy, or the guy sneezed when he sprayed your car, or simply just a moron who doesn't give a damn. More likely, it's a robot that sprayed it and the idjit who controls the robot made a mistake.
