My wife has a 2001 SLK 320, the trunk will not open with the latch. I can hear the lock engaging/disengaging and the handle feels like it either is locked or moves about half way when you try to open it. At first the handle felt like it was locked, after locking and unlocking it several times the handle would move about half way when you tried to open it. Thanks

 

I have seen the rod fall off of the latch assembly or also the handle. Lucky for you it is a SLK. Open the top enough so the deck lid opens. You will be able to access the handle and latch this way. Good luck!

 

Thanks for the reply, only problem is the guard is not pulled back so opening the top is not an option.

 

If you call Roadside assistance within MBZ 1-800-367-6372, tell them that you locked your keys in the car and they will come out to your home to unlock/break into the trunk to have it opened. As far as parts are concerned... your going to need a new rear lid lock mechanism. Which goes for about..$246.00 for the parts. Check out my website.
