I spend most of my time wrenching GM Marine Big Blocks so please give me a little leeway with my question. I have an S600 and plan on doing my own oil changes and just some very basic maintenance myself. After poking around under the hood I have located the oil filter. Is there any special toll needed to unscrew the knurled cap that covers the oil filter. And lastly, this engine (Model #275) has no oil dipstick so there is no way to pump out the old oil. Where is the oil pan drain plug located, is it a 13mm size bolt and lastly, since I will be using a 3 ton jack, where are the proper jack stand points since I see that I'll have to jack uo one side of the car on one of the large rubber bushings that are the lifting points for the frame. Again, a big "Thanks" in advance if there's anyone out there that can help me.

yes, you need the special tool or 74mm socket which you might probably have been using on marine engines. observe the tightening torque written on the cap. when using heavy tools, you might not feel the overtightening.

no dipstick. you check the oil level from instrument cluster after engine shutdown of 2 minutes.
oil capacity is 10 liters.

we extract the oil from the dipstick tube, but you can extract it from that 13mm drain plug.

there four jacking points on that side frame which is actually a plastic.

extracting oil must have the car as level as possible.

reset the service ASSYST through the instrument cluster too using the multi-function button.

 

Thanks allot for the info, we don't use 74mm sockets in the Marine end of our work. I didn't notice any torque values on top of the canister, only an arrow giving the direction in which to tighten it. I have several outstanding torque wrenchs so I'm not to worried about the proper torque, but I'd be surprised if it was more than 40 to 45 ft lbs. Also, does MB make a special tool they will sell to remove the top of the filter canister, or if not, do you know the number of points in the socket or is more or less setup like a reverse torx head? yes, this tool is widely available. they also use it in BMW, AUDI, VW, and Opel.
