S430 Starting Problem

RE: S430 Starting Problem
It does not seem to be temperature related. It has happened when my wife went to the grocery store. Stopped, went in, came out, no start. It has happened while it was sitting in the garage overnite and then would not start in the morning(when cool).
I have not been able to find any sort of pattern except when the car is locked and unlocked, this problem occurs(sometimes).
I pulled the fuse on the anti theft system so that is now under going a test.
I will be willing to try anything!! We love the car and it has been trouble free with the exception of this problem.

RE: S430 Starting Problem
Would the starter lockout switch be time sensitive??? somehow I dont think so?? I can understand the starter lockout switch being a problem however this would be intermittent and would probably work sometimes by moving the shifter lever.
I dont think the lockout switch would heal itself by time. As a last resort, I may have it changed but I just dont think that is consistent with the problems I am having.
Thanks

RE: S430 Starting Problem
Everything you are describing points to the "electronic ignition / starter switch control module".
The purpose of the EIS control module is as follows:
- Checking and controlling access authorization
- Checking and controlling drive authorization
- Infrared communication with the remote control key when inserted and inductive energy transmission to the remote control key

RE: S430 Starting Problem
the car was produced june 15, 1998 and not using eis yet.
140.033 S320L. my oh my, it is not S430 at all or else i got the wrong VIN? it got 6 cylinders! please correct me JohnG.
transmission is 722.605 so i omit the possibility of starter lock-out switch.
now let me think.....

RE: S430 Starting Problem
if the door lock response to the key remote control, then the engine control unit only disable the K38/3.
what i would do is to make a jumper on two big violet wires accessible on the sidekick panel of passenger side center console to confirm this.
drive authorization system disables the injection as i've known (it's been 10 years since last that i been working on this model...and forgets).

RE: S430 Starting Problem
I dont think the injection system is disabled. It is the ignition system that is disabled. No power is applied to the starter selenoid at all when the problem occurs.
If I jumper this connection what does this indicate???
