Default Removing Rear Vanity Assembly, 2001 S430

I'm sorry if this has been addressed previously but I am new. How do I drop the rear vanity mirror assembly from the ceiling panel on a S430. I can drop the perimeter lens and the inner cover but can't see a way to drop the balance of the assembly.

It is making a vibrating noise and I am one step from insanity.

simply pry it out with screwdriver from the front housing. (the bracket where the mirror assemlbly goes in).

it's just a spring loaded clip on the front and a hook shaped plastic on the rear which is molded with the housing. do a little push backward while doing this and open the mirror to make it more flex for prying.

Sleepwalker,

Thanks for the help, but I don't think I made my request very clear. I want to drop the entire housing from the ceiling. I don't want to open or disassemble the mirror itself.

The buzzing noise is above the entire vanity mirror and light assembly, likely something associated with the wiring or a wiring clip.

And a general question: When I bought the car new I asked if there would be any issues if I did 100% of my own routine maintenance. That was included, but I wanted to do my own work to get to know the car. I also asked if there were warranty issues that the fact that I did my own A and B service would not be held against me. I also asked if I had repairs I wanted to make if I could ask questions and get answers. Now the MB dealer policy is to stonewall me. They will not answer questions and they seem mad that I prefer to work on my own car. Is the local MB policy a universal one? This has cost them at least three new car sales the last five years.

Sleepwalker. That is exactly what I am looking for. Thank you.

How do I go about getting a shop manual?

I know that most of the shop employees and the service writers do not seem to like it if u want to work on ur own car, but lucky for me the people in the parts department are more than willing to help or give me advice if i need it. One of the service writers had the nerve to say to me "if u want to drive a Mercedes u have to pay for it" i looked him right in the face and said no i dont and you people will never touch my car again. But thanks to sleepwalker i can now get diagrams and info on here.

I won't go into the detail, but suffice it to say the folks at the dealership have lost a customer forever. As it turns out the car is a joy to drive except it has been as reliable as a Yugo. From the first week it has had problems I wouldn't accept in my pickup, much less a car that is touted as one of the world's best.

Now that I know of this site I intend to spend time here. So far my experience here has been great.

It's nice to see I am in such good company. Up until the dealer refused to help me with information on the removal of the vanity mirror assembly they have bent over backwards trying to resolve the quality issues, including replacing three instrument clusters, even after the warranty expired.

For a year now the car has been trouble free, but before anybody thinks that is a big deal you need to know it has a total of 17,000 miles. For quite a while I could plan on a visit back to the dealer after every three tanks of fuel on average. My wife refuses to drive it because of the reliability.

I'm convinced that if something complex that I can't or don't want to repair myself fails the car will be up for sale. It's too bad because I worked my butt off for years to get to the position to be able to buy anything I want, and the car I choose turns out to be a dud.

One thing I found out that brings me no end of joy is that the folks at the dealership really hate it when you suggest if the car was a Lexus I wouldn't be having these types of problems.
