Default Remote keyless entry install in '87 420 SEL

Are these after-market keyless entry systems a gimmick or do they really work when installed in an older Mercedes. Specfically my 1987 420 SEL. Is there anything visible or unsightly to look at once installed? Is there one brand that is best? Or is this a bad idea entirely?

thanks in advance,
Jim

Default RE: Remote keyless entry install in '87 420 SEL

Hello Jim I too own a 420 sel, mine is a 1990. I currently have a keyless entry system that works in conjunction with my alarm system and it works perfect. It is a Prestige unit, and gives me no problems. I also have an Auto Page with remote start on my other vehicle. The aftermarket units I have found are for the most part good and largely dependent on the installer. There are codes available for most all cars with few exceptions these days. Newer cars sometimes have a waiting period sometimes, but most older cars have already been coded and when installed by a true pro they can get them matched up with no problem. Good Luck .
