Remote Entry key

1999 ML 320- My Remote Keys have stopped working. I have changed the batteries. 1 remote failed months before the other. Do these units just go bad?
How do I fix?

the remote is still good, you need to go to the dealer to get it reprogrammed and you will be ok then.
