Fellow Merceders,

Here's a tricky problem I hope some kind soul can solve.
My A190 drives really well, but yesterday the battery light came on on the dash, then the power steering failed and there was a clattering sound.
Then it all stopped and began working again properly.
My wife experienced a similar problem when she turned on the air-con the day before.
What gremlin lurks beneath my bonnet?

Check the serpentine belt....I'm not familiar with that model. But that sounds like your belt is failing or another component that the belt rides is failing.

Suspect your serpentine belt idler / tensioner has seized.
Get this inspected/sorted immediately.
Suggest you don't drive the car since if the seized pulley causes the serpentine belt to stall not only will you have no alternator and steering but you will not have any engine cooling.
Could become VERY expensive.
