Default oil change/ warranty question

I just got my 07 c230 a couple months ago and I was wondering if I have to go to the dealer for oil changes?

I have a friend that owns a quick lube business and he also owns a C230. He said it is nothing special to change the oil. You can get the filter from your local Auto zone or parts store near by. They are paper cartridge style filters and are a bit pricer than the standard metal style that most cars have. I think auto Zone has them for $11 and the service is about $25 if you want it done.

If you are using paper cartridge filters you can potentially void your engine warranty if you end up w/ a sludging issue. Paper filters are not designed to go the distance that synthetic oils are. On your C class your service intervals are 13k miles or 13 months. At least buy the right type of filter it is a "Fleece type filter". These are designed to allow for these type of service intervals.
