New member needs help

1990 mercedes SL500 - convertible, battery went bad today new battery now soon as it starts it dies only way to keep running is to pump accelerator and then it is very,very rough running unless you keep it at 3000 rpm and above then smooth running.

I dis connected battery ground ((left key out of ignition) let set a few minutes hooked battery back up and all is good.
