Need advice on engine block rebuild
I understand that when we change the piston rings , we'dbetter hone the cylinder bores as well. However, are we suppose to hone an alloy Alusilengine block like those used in Mercedes? Would the new piston rings seat properly in the future without honing the bores in this kind of engine?
Thanks a lot.

RE: Need advice on engine block rebuild
hello, on the newer engines m112,m113 used after 1997 the cyl. walls are treated with special coating from factory which accoding to mercedes should not be honed!!! although i used a ball hone in all
of the 15 v-6 ,v-8 engines that i had built and never had a problem . the m112 is a alumn. v-6 and the m113 is alumn v-8 . the older engines 119,116,117 are all metal blocks and we used a ball hone also .
just remember you are not boreing the cylinder to oversized. so 5-10 sec. would give enough of a cross-hatch and you'll be fine.just used plenty of wd40 as lube and clean the cy. l well afterwards .
