Hi ever since I bought my 1987 300d automatic Mercedes it sounds like it clunks into gear. Sometimes it will be a very noticeable clank and sometimes it is more subtle. When I do hear it I can feel it in the back of the car. Has anyone ever experienced this before. Sometimes it sounds so bad that I feel like I am doing something wrong but I accelerate very slowly in the car to prevent it from doing this when it switches from gear to gear. Also I usually only notice it when it switches from 1st to 2nd. I never notice it when it down shifts.

Check drive shaft couplers (rubber) and, diff for play.......

 

Ok thank you for that advice. My dad told me it might be some kind of vacuum modulator. Would you think this is possible as well?
