Default Maintenance History

Being totally new to the MB world, I am sure there are lots of questions to come, so techies be prepared!

Today's question is this: I will become a 2000 E-320 owner on Saturday, culminating a lot of years of wishing. How does one go about getting the maintenance history of a pre-owned Benz if the paper records are not available? Is there some website that can provide the historical records of what maintenance was performed?

Since I subscribe to the theory that "there are no dumb questions", does anyone name their Benz'? Seems like all of our vehicles have names, some unfit for public consumption, but I never gave much thought to whether or not the new car in the yard should have a name or not. What do you say?

Hi cdavid46,

Your local authorized dealer will be able to pull a record of all services performed at authorized dealers, and any customer info that was contributed to the record. CarFax- can tell you if the car was repaired by an insurance company. The car also has a self-diagnostic memory that can be reviewed to see if there are any current or marginal issues. Beyond that you have to use your own good judgement. It is a fantastic bonus to get an older car with complete records, but honestly alot of people stop saving them after eight or more years, or over 150k mles. Generally at that point the car is what it is.

CLK named Babidy
190E named Mercy
300CE named Lucky
Odyssey named Ody (as in Garfeild)

Didn't name my benz, however my wife and I do refer to the navigation system as "Gretchen" AND when it wants to take me the long way around "Gretta". Sort of like calling your kids by their middle name when they've done something wrong. Enjoy your dream car.....

BlueSilver, thanks for the maintenance information! I had a feeling that the dealer could assist in seeing the history on the car. I will give that a shot. Also, appreciate seeing all your "family" names! That gives me some comfort that I am not totally crazy, or should I say in a permanent senior moment!

Ecstatic, thanks to you too! I am trying my best to get through this last day before taking ownership of the new family member. For a senior citizen, it is strange to be this anxious. Reminds me of Christmas a long, long time ago.

Be sure to post a pic of your car so we can see it.
I actually need to take some new photos of mine too.
