Low oil pressure indicators dont agree
Hi:
I just bought a 1986 420 SEL with 92K. It was driven very sparingly the last 24 years, and appears to have been maintained well.
The prior owner stated that the low oil pressure light was not working (lighting) when the ignition switch was turned on, as it would prior to startup. However, the oil pressure gauge reads 2-3 bar at all times while engine is running, only falling to 2 bar when at idle, in gear, on a warm engine.
This morning, the low oil pressure light turned on. I stopped the engine, after noting that the gauge was reading 3 bar, checked the dipstick (full), and removed the oil cap, to see if there was fresh oil in the camshaft area, which was the case.
Question-does this light have a seperate sender, or is it incorporated into the oil pressure gauge sending unit?
Is it likely that the light is in error?? Everything seems to be working/in order, except the light. The wet/fresh oil conditon of the camshaft seems to suggest that oil pump is doing it's job.
Suggestions?
Thanks
