Okay so I had some knocking sounds in the engine. My friend who works on porches siad it sounded like the "torgue converter". I took it in to a place that fixes benz only and the guy said the barrings in between the input shaft and the output shaft are coming apart (no torgue converter). He said it is located in the transmission which he would have to take apart just to get to. Then he said depending on what it looked like (the barring exploding? but would not know the extent of the damage til he got in there) he might have to rebuild the transmission as well.

Just to fix the barrings $2800
to fix barrings and transmission $4000.


Can some one shed light on this for me. Does this sound right? Feel free to email me if you know any thing about this. I have a 1999 SLK 230 compressor with 104,500. miles
