OK - this is probably a dumb questions, but I am asking anyway.

I have 1997 C230 - There is a small plastic hose (tube) coming from a small gadget on the right side of the engine. This tube ends at the front of the engine underneat a black cover. Can this hardplastictube be replace with a rubber hose. I do no have a dealer in town an I can not find this hose at any of the local aut part houses.

Go for it. Trace the start and ends of this plastic tubing carrying vacuum. Verify it is only vacuum or vapor being transported. All good vacuum/vapor hose will carry this workload.

I have had good luck with maximum (maximumautoparts.com) for these kind of things - had to replace a bunch of hose in an old 230. They stock the plastic stuff, and all of the check valves and other hardware.
