Engine slight knock
I have a 1985 500 SEL with 160,00 mi. witha slight engine knock. The previous owner said the timing chains were replaced at 150,000 mi.. Should I be concerned with this condition? Also the gas pedal has to be pushed pretty far to get some responce, is this normal? The exhaust pipe before the catalitic converter has a leak also one of the pipes going back after the cat has some leaks, can anyone give me a general price range for the exhaust work.Any help on any of these sujects would be appreciated.
I have heard some recent complaints about fuel quality in the USlately. If the car requires unleaded, try the higher octane.
The exhaust can be welded/repaired if its not too bad, but this usually applies to cars that have merely scraped the driveway one too many times, and rubbed a hole. Given the age of your car, it may in fact need new pipes. Ballpark $2000 for authentic, but some people shop around and find some pretty cheap aftermarket. Blue
