I have a 1982 380sl. I recently purchased the vehicle and it seems to drive well. This is my first posting - and sorry guys I'm a not very mechanical girl. I hope that I can find some useful information on this site. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

My question: when freeway driving and have to come to a quick slow down, my engine will die and thereby my brakes are no longer power brakes. I can quickly put the car in neutral, restart and away I go but I want to know how I can correct this and is it a BIG problem.

 

there's a problem on idle speed control.

lots of things can affect the idle.

what's the idle speed when in gear and in neutral?

easy way is to adjust the idle speed via CO lean/enrichment screw and cleaning the idle speed air valve.

since you're just a girl and not ready for those tinkering, find a reasonable person to do it.

 

At what point does the car die, when you come to a stop or well before you have stopped?
