Just bought another 190e, this time a cheap 2.0.
Engine starts and runs ok with good oil pressure, but knocks at about 2500rpm and gets worse as motor warms up. Previous owner tried new big end shells but not really any better. Is there any common faults with these motors or is the motor finished.
The auto box is good in forward gears and holds on brake smooth and quiet, but in reverse the car feels like its rumbling and the box is pulling against the brake, but is ok when moving. Can any adjustments be made , or do i just have to live with this.

I discovered that the Rumbling you have is mostly due to a broke Motorsteun, and I do not know the word in english, but it is the damper on whitch te engine leans. Two small 10 cm diameter drums hold the engine in the frame. When the problem only occurs in reverse its probabliy the left damper that is broke. Otherwise it might even be a broke hardy-clutch.

the engine puts hughe torque on the rear wheels when the autobox is in reverse, the brake regulating system is designed for forward breaking, not for reversedriving. Very much force has to be applied to the brake pedal to notice the car still doesn't stop. And with slippery or snowy conditions the car is uncontrollable in reverse, jumping up and down sidewalks and scaring bicyclists when trying to park. One hand on the shift lever, clicking the box in and out reverse where needed will comfort your backward travelling time...
