i just bought a 2004 E55 amg and was wondering if their is any major problems with these cars?

If the E55 has been maintained well, then there shoudn't be! Open the bonnet and hopefully you will see a red "warning" sticker on your brake unit-SBC. If this isn't there, go to your dealer and get them to do it. It's a warranty procedure at any time called P37!
There aren't any general running problems that are specific for the E55 except the old Brake issues!
