I have a nightmare with my Mercedez E420 1997 with only 97000 miles. When I start running the car the ASR light starting flashing and the vehicule reduce the speed to 20 miles. If I placed the ASR sitch off then the transmission go to neutral and I have to stop it , shut off and wait a couple of minutes to start again with same results. If the trasmission bad???

Or is it the sensor that provides wrong information. I have about the same problem, but I think that in my case it might be that false information is given to the computer. Either a broken or loose cable or a sensor that doesn't work correctly (dirty or broken?).
