diesel in oil

diesel in oil
have a 300 class six cylinder diesel,injector pipes to 1 and two on top of pump were leaking diesel. bought new o rings fitted them pulled dipstick to check levels before start up and oil seemed funny. started engine ran but not well. dropped oil full of diesel which continued to run ot of sump untill i disconnected fuel line. now i was confused as the laws of gravity mean it cant syphon as pump is highest point. any ideas . oh its a 97mike
