Question Diesel Help

I have an 85 300cd and within the past week it has started not shutting off when I take the key out of the ignition. It is diesel and there is a pull swith under the hood to stop it (although i have not had to do that). Is this normal? It usually stops within like 5 seconds of the key turning off, but I was just wondering.

Thanks in advance for your help.

hey.....our 82 300D turbo diesel just recently developed this problem. Although ours is sensative! If my husband "gently" turns it off it does not to iddle. Also after the car is warm it does not seem to do this all of the time. So I am not sure if any of this has any relationship or not.

That sounds like your vacuum pump is failing- How are the brakes? If the pedal has recently started needing more effort, then you should replace/repair it. If it totally fails, it can do significant damage to the engine.

Actually the vacum pump was replaced not to long before we bought the car. We have a 240D also and it appears that some of the parts are interchangable. Any ideas on the vacumpump? We have not owned the 300D too long and are working out the kinks on it still. Thanks for your reply and warning.....Rhonda and Robert aka Mudheads
