Default Code P0600 and P0705

We have these error codes on our 2001 CLK 430 (about 72000 miles) and now they are saying we need to replace the transmission modulator, at 750 just for the part, does this sound Kosher?

In the data I have, P0600 indicates a CAN (controller network communications) error;
CAN Serial Communication Link Malfunction to ESP-

P0705 indicates
Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)
I don't have the in-depth skill to look at these two codes and conclude that the modulator is the root cause. What I do have based on these OBD definitions is enough suspicion to get a 2nd opinion.

The Transmission Selector Module cannot be seen by the network.

Did they give you a diagnostics print out. Does this fit with your symptoms?

This COULD be a connection (corrosion, pin backed out, become disconnected) or module (transmission computer) problem.

However, the most common cause of your problem is a spilled drink in the vicinity of the PRNDL selector which has shorted the module.

Stuart.
