I have a wagon that has had a front left clunky noise for many months...car drives OK but just the other day the noise has gotten loud...very audible at lower speeds. A mechanic looked at it awhile back while on a lift and saw nothing. It's something. anyone?

its an E class? if it is, could be lowerball joints, sway bar bushings and sway bar links are common wear items that clunk and knock over bumps. bad wheel bearings can too. could maybe be lower control arm bushings but they usually dont make a clunk or knock sound. your noise is one of these items or a combo of all of them.

It is an E class. Thanks for the help...I would have thought that this could have been detected while up on the lift. I will try again as the last time I drove it the noise had increased significantly. Thanks again.

the bushings will have alot of wear to them thus allowing to much room between the sway bar and the bushing itself. the links are hard to tell if they're bad but they are cheap and pretty easy to do. he should be able to tell by moving the lower ball joints theyll have too much play in them.
