Clunk when shifting 450SL
Good day all. I recently bought my first Mercedes, a 1976 450SL hardtop convertible. It has a fairly serious clunk when shifting between gears (worse up then down). And the clunk is worse when still accelerating. If I let off the gas just when it's about to shift, the clunk isn't as bad. I don't know these cars at all so for those who do know them, is that a transmission issue or something else?
Thanks!!

Just responded to your other post - sounds like a transmission issue. Take a look at the DIY tech article link I attached.

I'm not certain how many motor and transmission mounts your SL has has but I might consider having a look, or have someone look at the mounts. My 96 SL500 had one transmission and 2 motor mounts. All were shot. I believe they may have some fluid in them originally. If one is bad, I would change all, particularly if they have never been changed. I believe it to be substantially less expensive than delving into the transmission. Have someone look at the engine when you rev it in park or neutral. If it tilts or raise up separately from the car, the mounts are bad.
