CLK 55 transmission guard?

CLK 55 transmission guard?

Have a 06 CLK 55 with 5 speed. Curious as to the plate under the tranny. Seems to small and lightweight for a mount. Is it some sort of guard or shield? Any help, thanks.

If this is a convertible, soft top or cabriolet. This is needed as a body frame brace. Bill Mercer
