Default CD Changer

I just purchased a cd changer throught E-bay and was told, later by a friend that worked on Mercedes that the radio has to be set-up or programmed to except a cd changer. Is this true and or can anyone help me.
Thanks E430 2000

yes, the fiber optic ring will have to be rewired and then programed.

When I purchased the Mercedes it looked like there was once a cd changer in the trunk well, will it still have to be programmed?

Milo, what CD changer did you buy? Be specfic.

I purchased a used Becker 6 disc changer off eBay a couple of weeks ago. Condition: unknown

After getting the correct adapter cable from Becker, I plugged the sucker in and life has been good since. Our '02 wagon did not have a CD changer previously and has never been programmed by the dealer AFAIK.

Some cars seem to need programming while others can get away without it.

Milo, you may be lucky (luck me) and find it works after plugging it in. Nobody here can tell you with certainty. OTOH, if it doesn't work, it means a trip to the dealer for $100. I believe the dealer is the only one that can interface with the system to get it programmed when required.

Not good, I just spent the last 8 hrs. trying to get this thing to eject. I happened to have anothr changer, from a jaguar which believe or not has the same internal parts, except board. I swapped boards and any necessary hardware, it still will not eject correctly. I give up they win. Ebay junk, dont buy unless you can return,$100 in the hole. Could be werse. I guess the only good thing is now I can answer any changer issue you may encounter. Any suggestions,I need a beer!!!
