Can't Close Roof 300D 1985
I can't get the sun roof of my 1985 300DT to close completely. When I try to open it, it only goes about an inch, and then starts making a grinding noise directly above the drivers head. When I try to close it, it makes the same noise, and goes shut, but when I look at it from the outside, you can see that it is not quite raised up in the back, not flush with the roof line. I am concerned that it will leak soon, or that water will pool and create rust. I do not care if it works any more, but I would really like to get it shut, anybody have any suggestions without ripping the whole headliner apart, I heard that can take days.

not days. after removing all the goes on it's way, you can simply slide it forward and remove it.
there's a velcro on the rear area on which you need to slightly pull it down first.

I have a similar problem with my 93 300e. The difference is no grinding noise, it just acts like it's stuck. If I push it while pressing the button, it will open and close, but it really is hard to do. Do I need to lube something or what? It does the same thing when I open it vertically, so I don't think it's the track.
