Smile Can someone decode my vin? Answer some technical questions on SL 350 either 72 or 73

Hi can someone decode my vin? I am hoping this will help to answer some of my many questions I have about this car.

I would like to know what was original to this car and to figure out what year was it and if it was a US purchased or European gray market or just European?

Also was this car a European model or US model? Gray market to the US? as it is in the united states - but not sure when it came. I ask this because the headlights are flat rectangle - from what I have read this was not allowed in the US in 72 or 73 - the two years I believe this car to be only the round headlights were allowed. I think it is a 72 because it has the V8 - but says 350.

I believe it has the smaller bumpers on it - although I am no expert.

Which version is more valuable - the flat rectangle headlights or round headlights?

SL 350 convertible with both hard and soft top - I believe it is a 72 but some conflicting information - someone else told me it was a 73. inside label says mfg in 1971.

SL HAS THE 4.5 LITER OVERHEAD CAM V8 AND A AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
power windows, air condition, convertible hard and soft top, tape cassette stereo ( i guess advance for back then--- no mp3s!)

exterior is currently: white - was that the original color? If not what was?
WHEELS SUPPOSEDLY STANDARD CHROME ISSUE - CAN YOU TELL ME - i HAVE THE SPOKES THAT ARE CHROME AND IN THE CENTER VERY SMALL CIRCLE THAT HAS THE MERCEDES SYMBOL ON THEM - NO HUB CAPS THAT HAVE THE COLOR PAINT ON THEM - ALSO THE OUTER CIRCLE OF THE WHEELS HAVE 15 DASH LINES SPREADING OUT LIKE FROM A CLOCK- IS THIS STANDARD? sPECIAL? IS IT MISSING THE HUB CAPS I HAVE seen other mercedes have?

Is there anything special about this car that makes it unique?

Any information you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for all your advice and support

tan leather seats with lighter tan rug on floor

Vin 107044-12-001355

Model 107
Says made in 1971 on metal tag from car - so does that make it a 1971 car or a 1972 made in 1971.
Tag says mfd by daimler benz az stuttgart

Cool decoding VIN

Dear sm72sl,

This site has worked on all my cars, but I tried yours and it could not decode it. Recheck your numbers and give it a try. Free VIN Decoder - Vehicle Identification Number Report Hope this helps.

I checked somemore and normally need 17 digits, you only have 14. And if you have only 16 you can try to add a X before the 10th digit. This may give you the wrong year but may give you other information.
