Unhappy A/C- Heater dash control unit

Does anyone know how to remove the A/C-Heater unit from the dash of a 1998 S420?

I'm not exactly sure on your car, but on my 190d there's screws at the bottom of the middle dash vents that hold the upper middle section, and then there are screws in the ash tray compartment that hold the bottom of that section, don't remember if any were on the sides but you take the middle section(radio, and heater/ac components)out and then you should be able to remove that component. Thats if they're the same, worth looking at. Goodluck, I'm chasing a heater/ac problem myself.

Probably the same way as the radio.

Here's what they look like.

If you look closely, you'll probably see two small slits, one on each side, near the bottom. You slide the two tools in and pull everything out. The tools are labeled "Top Left" and Top Right", which is how they are oriented when slid in.

Waybombs way sounds a lot less complicated than mine, I had no idea that the ac/heater would/could come out like that, I'm a rookie at these kind of problems, I've been trying to fix my heater/a/c for months. If I could just figure out how to switch out my ignition switch I may have it.
