Broken Key!

Broken Key!
Hi there,
In the UK. Broke my key for an A-Class. Asked about a replacement and told the whole unit must be replaced costing £130 and taking 7 days. Got a new key cut privately - started once then cut off after a few seconds and can't get it restarted. Is there some sort of override in the fob that relates to the key or is it just not possible to use a non-dealer key? Thanks for any help.

RE: Broken Key!
there is a safety measure with the new DCX products which wont allow the car to run for more than a few seconds with the proper programmed key...its a nice safety feature, but its always a nice way for the dealer to suck some cash out of your pocket.
